Cookies
Last updated 15 October 2026. The tracking we use, and how you stay in control.
This policy explains the cookies and similar tracking we use, and how you stay in control. It sits alongside our Privacy notice, which covers how we handle personal data more broadly.
What cookies and tracking are
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. We also use similar technologies such as pixels, local storage and session storage. Together they let the site work, remember your choices, and (only if you allow it) help us understand how the site is used and which adverts bring enquiries.
We ask before we load anything non-essential
Nothing optional loads until you choose. On your first visit a banner offers three choices with the same weight: Accept all, Reject all and Customise, where you can switch analytics and marketing on or off separately. Rejecting is as easy as accepting, and closing the banner with the Escape key counts as rejecting. Until you choose, no analytics or marketing script runs and nothing is sent to those providers. We also respect "Do Not Track" and Global Privacy Control signals: with either one on, nothing optional loads and we do not show the banner.
We keep your choice for 13 months, then ask again. We also ask again if what a category covers changes.
The categories we use
Necessary
Needed for the site to work, to remember your cookie choice, to keep the forms free of abuse and to let a guide you bought open on your device. These always run and do not need consent. They are never used for advertising.
Analytics
Show us, in aggregate, which pages are read and where people get stuck, so we can improve the site. Used by Google Analytics 4, Microsoft Clarity and Ahrefs Web Analytics. These load only if you switch analytics on.
Marketing
Measure which adverts lead to an enquiry or a purchase, and load the live chat. With marketing on, an enquiry or a purchase can be matched to the advert you came from: the advertising platform receives a hashed (scrambled) copy of your email or phone number and the ad click identifier. Used by the Meta Pixel and Conversions API, the TikTok Events API, Google Ads conversions, the Orevida attribution pixel run by our web agency, and the visit tracking and live chat of our customer system (LeadConnector). These load only if you switch marketing on.
The live chat on its own. With marketing off, a Chat with us button lets you open the live chat anyway. It asks first, then loads only LeadConnector’s chat and its cookies, not the visit tracking or any advertising tool. Your choice is remembered for 13 months; choosing Reject all in Cookie settings clears it.
What is actually set, and for how long
Naming things is more useful than a category. This is what can be stored on your device. Nothing in the analytics or marketing tables is set until you switch that category on, with one exception we would rather name than hide: if you arrived from an advert and then send an enquiry or start a checkout, the campaign details you arrived with are stored at that moment so we can process what you asked for. They are only passed to an advertising platform if marketing is on.

Similar technologies
We also use browser local storage for the same purposes, and for the reader and the Workspace to remember your place and hold what you type. Local storage is not sent to a server automatically, with one exception: the reader and the Workspace sync what you write to our server so your place and your record follow you to your other device. Clearing site data in your browser removes it.
The members’ area is different
The reader and the Locus CODE™ Workspace load no analytics and no advertising scripts at all, whatever you have consented to elsewhere on the site. That is deliberate: your access key travels in the page address, and we are not prepared to hand that to a third party or to record what you read for marketing. The only storage there is what the pages need to work.
How to change your consent
You can change your mind at any time. Use Cookie settings at the foot of every page: it opens the same panel with your current choice, where you can switch analytics or marketing on or off, accept all or reject all.
Switching a category off takes effect straight away. Its scripts stop, and the cookies and stored data it set on this site are deleted where your browser lets us. Cookies a provider set on its own domain can only be removed by that provider or in your browser settings. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything done before you withdrew it. You can also clear cookies for this site in your browser and reload the page to be asked again.
